Rebecca Wetzel

Rebecca Wetzel is an principal of NetForecast. She is also president of the marketing consulting firm, Wetzel Consulting LLC, where she provides data communications industry insight and helps vendors and service providers develop and deploy successful marketing strategies. Ms. Wetzel draws on her direct experience of more than 20 years in data networking.

Her areas of expertise include application performance measurement, control and acceleration technologies, network and application security, voice over IP, virtual private networking solutions, as well as a variety of other emerging technologies such as anti-phishing and spam mitigation. In addition, for many years she has performed customer-focused market research to help Internet services providers rate their performance relative to competitors, and determine what new service offerings their customers want.

Rebecca was vice president of marketing for network caching and content delivery vendor InfoLibria, where she helped the company raise a total of $21.5M in venture funding and dramatically heightened market awareness for the company. She has also served as acting vice president of marketing for a number of early stage startups.

As Director of Internet Consulting at TeleChoice, Inc., Rebecca helped many network service providers develop and hone their IP services strategies to enhance their positions in an increasingly competitive marketplace. She helped an even larger number of equipment vendors develop strategies to successfully sell to service providers and enterprises.

As director of marketing at Bolt Beranek and Newman (which subsequently became GTE Internetworking, Genuity, and then Level3), Rebecca built and managed the marketing organization that established BBN as a leader in providing value-added Internet services to businesses. In addition to responsibility for BBN's Internet Advantage managed connectivity services, Wetzel masterminded the marketing of the worlds first managed firewall service, Site Patrol, the world's first IP VPN service, and BBN's ground-breaking Web Advantage Web hosting service family.

Co-author of the book Internet Telephony for Dummies, Rebecca regularly contributes to and is quoted by such publications as the Wall Street Journal, Network World, and Business Communications Review. She has also authored dozens of white papers and reports.

Rebecca has an undergraduate degree from Wellesley College, an MA degree from the University of West Yorkshire in the UK, and an MBA from Babson College.
