Tom Tosh

Thomas Tosh is an associate with NetForecast.  He is also founder and president of the network performance consulting firm, CHI Metrix LC (pronounced “key metrics”), where he provides clients with the ability to gain visibility into network and application performance problems via the EZ-Trace® product line, and rapid analysis of those problems via Protocol & Tracefile Analysis Laboratories®, both developed by and exclusive to CHI Metrix.

Prior to establishing CHI Metrix, Thomas was a Senior Network Performance Consultant for the company that produced the original Sniffer, Network General. In that position, Thomas traveled the globe to help clients isolate the causes of the most challenging performance issues. His clients included most among the Fortune 50 companies, international firms, and various state and federal government agencies.

Prior to joining Network General, Thomas was a Senior Network Engineer at Honeywell Corporation, where he would help in the design and implementation of business networks that could communicate with a plant’s traditional automation and process control networks. His clients included major oil, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical, and food and paper processing manufacturers. Tosh specialized in using network analysis tools to baseline and troubleshoot networks prior to redesign, and conduct post-implementation network certification and health-checks.

Before Honeywell, Thomas spent a 15-year career with International Business Machines as a mainframe Systems Engineer, Technical Instructor, and Training Course Developer. As a Systems Engineer, Thomas took care of accounts in the banking and retail market sectors. As an Instructor and Course Developer, he was an expert in IBM token ring networks and developed training courses on a wide variety of networking technologies. Another major accomplishment was his leading the development of a program in Project Management for selected individuals among IBM field engineers.

Before IBM, Tosh served as an electronics technician in the US Navy for nearly seven years. He attended the US Navy’s Advanced Electronics Program for two of those seven years, and served aboard two modern warships. His specialties included cryptographic equipment, communications, electronic warfare and aircraft navigation (TACAN) systems. Tosh was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1978, and was awarded the Vietnam Service medal in addition to the Good Conduct medal.

Another of Tosh’s interests and abilities is moderate fluency in spoken and written Japanese.
