Enterprise Application Performance Analysis

NetForecast, Inc.
Consulting services based on hard data

NetForecast helps clients assure effective performance of critical business applications with a unique, well-defined methodology that:
  • Benchmarks application performance
  • Determines performance goals
  • Assesses application delivery alternatives

All of our work builds upon the concept of the NetForecast Performance Framework. *

Application Performance Benchmark

Application benchmarking determines if you have a performance problem. NetForecast profiles your business application and reveals how well it provides satisfactory response time service to the user community it serves. We compare your profile to a wide range of industry standards in our extensive library of application profiles that are based upon precise application and user measurements.

The result is a clear understanding of the application requirements and performance threshold targets, as well as a pro-forma performance assessment against those targets. The benchmark report describes the technical aspects of performance issues and sets the groundwork for understanding how to improve performance.

Application Delivery Design

What the application does (or how it behaves) typically cannot be changed. But how it is delivered varies greatly and can be modified. The application delivery system is a large collection of assets and services that exists between a server and its user’s device. The delivery system can often compensate for application design flaws and is a significant source of performance improvement (see technologies on the left). The NetForecast performance mapping process shown below will quickly find an optimum mix of delivery technologies that will provide the best performance with a positive ROI.

Setting Performance Goals

Performance goals are determined by means of a business assessment process. NetForecast meets with your team to learn the business role of the application and how its services support key business functions of your enterprise. The users are then surveyed to qualify and quantify the performance functions of the application. The survey can be limited to a small number of users or user representatives.

The business assessment report quantifies the business value of application performance. It includes a user profile that provides the best guidance on investing in performance improvement approaches. We have extensive experience with a wide range of users as shown in the list on the left.

Alternative Solutions

There are dozens of technologies supplied by more than 100 vendors that can improve application performance. Determining which technology and vendor will provide the optimal solution to your specific performance issues is a complex challenge. It is too costly and time consuming to pilot solutions until success is achieved. Using our models, we can quickly investigate a wide range of alternative solutions.

The NetForecast performance models deconstruct response time in all aspects of the application delivery system, including software, server, network, and desktop components. We then change the parameters affected by the range of solutions under consideration. The models provide a quick understanding of the costs and benefits of each solution.

You can then make well-informed decisions regarding technology and vendor selection along with a transition plan for integrating the solution into your infrastructure.

Buying NetForecast Services

Clients may purchase these studies separately or as an integrated package. NetForecast works with its clients to modify these studies and integrate any unique client needs into a statement of work that is then delivered under a fixed-price contract.

We invite you to visit our Web site to learn more about our methodology and to review our reports on the many aspects of performance.
